Why Bang Tao Beach Is Worth Your Time in Phuket
Bang Tao Beach is the stretch of coastline that runs along the western edge of the Cherngtalay and Laguna area in northern Phuket. It is approximately eight kilometres long, faces the Andaman Sea, and is consistently one of the least crowded of Phuket's major beaches despite being surrounded by some of the island's most established residential and resort infrastructure.
The Beach Itself
Bang Tao Beach has the kind of length that absorbs a crowd without becoming crowded. Even during peak season in December and January, the northern and central sections of the beach retain a sense of space that Patong and Karon cannot offer at similar times of year. The sand is pale, the slope into the water is gradual, and the Andaman Sea in front of Bang Tao is calm from November through March — the flat-water period that makes this stretch one of the best swimming beaches in Phuket.
Sunsets
Bang Tao faces due west, which means the sunsets from the beach are consistent and often exceptional. The panorama is unobstructed — there are no islands or headlands breaking the horizon — and the sky typically turns through orange, pink, and purple as the sun drops. The sunset from the northern end of the beach, where the crowd thins out entirely, is among the better sunset spots on the west coast of Phuket.
What Is Nearby
Cherngtalay and Boat Avenue are a 10 to 15-minute walk or a very short drive from the beach. The concentration of restaurants, coffee shops, fresh markets, and services in Cherngtalay means that everything a guest needs is accessible without leaving the area. Woravalan Thai Massage is 500 metres from Boat Avenue, making it a natural post-beach stop.
