What Is the Best Length for a Thai Massage? 60, 90 or 120 Minutes

One of the most common questions before booking a Thai massage in Phuket is whether 60, 90, or 120 minutes is the right choice. The answer depends on what you are trying to achieve, how much tension you are carrying, and whether you want a full traditional sequence or a more targeted session.

What 60 Minutes Covers

A 60-minute Thai massage covers the full body in the sense that every area is touched — feet, legs, back, arms, shoulders, head — but without the time to work deeply on any one region. For guests who are not carrying significant tension and primarily want a light-to-medium session for general wellbeing and circulation, 60 minutes is sufficient. It is also appropriate as a repeat maintenance session for guests who have had a longer session recently.

What 90 Minutes Adds

Ninety minutes is the session length most experienced Thai massage guests choose. The additional 30 minutes allows the therapist to work meaningfully on specific areas of tension rather than passing through them. The full traditional sequence can be completed in 90 minutes, including the anterior leg work, the posterior back sequence, the shoulder and arm work, and the head and neck finish. For guests arriving with travel tension, back or shoulder pain, 90 minutes produces substantially better results than 60.

When 120 Minutes Is Worth It

A two-hour session allows for the complete traditional Thai massage sequence to be performed without time pressure, with space for the therapist to revisit and work more deeply through any areas that require additional attention. It is the right choice for guests with chronic tension patterns, those who have not had a massage in a long time, and those who want the deepest possible experience of the traditional sequence.
